Life
Ephesians 4:1
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.
We will be studying together the book “Radical” during the next several weeks. I am so excited to get started. But, as I told the women in the study earlier…I already feel like I want to start going la la la and put my fingers in my ears so I don’t have to hear what He is saying. But, I know that even when I don’t want to hear what He says to me…He somehow keeps trying to take my fingers out of my ears…get in my face and get my undivided attention. He’s like that you know…a very “radical” God. And He deserves so much more from us than we…most of the time…are willing to give.
He says in this passage of Scripture that we are called to live a life worthy of our calling. He urges us to look closely at our calling…our lives. It is so easy to just go skipping and hopping through life…singing la la la with our fingers in our ears…going our merry way. Thinking that we are doing so well. We are doing all that God would want us to do. All the while things like pride, selfishness and control are ruling our lives…instead of our “calling”. I want life to be easy. I don’t want to have to give up comforts, time, money and possessions. I don’t want life to be hard…or sad…or mixed up. I want to be able to do what I want to do…right? The thing is…when I discover my calling in Jesus and go after it…what He wants suddenly becomes what I want. It’s not as hard to give up…take down…hand over. At least that’s what I hear. I’m. Not. There. Yet. But, I want to get there. I think.
I’m not sure what that looks like. To live a life worthy of my calling. I’m trying to imagine it. To see all that He would want for me. To live so fully for Him that He would be my first thought. Always. Not what I want to eat, what movie I want to watch, what TV show is coming on, what I want to do with my weekend. My calling. Your calling. What does that look like? Let’s find out in the next few weeks together. Each calling has the same main character…Jesus. But, the details will be different for each of us. That is so like the God we serve. He has written a different story for each of us…our calling. I can’t wait to discover it. Can you? Please let me know if you plan to study with us by commenting on the blog.
I am including a video of Matthew West and his song, “The Story of Your Life”. He is a very gifted young artist and this song has great words. Listen carefully and imagine what your “story” your “calling” will be.
Sending much love,
Debbie
